POSITION: Preschool Instructor – 9 Month/Full-Time at Shelby Hills Preschool (JACKSON CENTER Classroom)
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. ODE Early Childhood Intervention Specialist License preferred; OR Kindergarten Primary or Kindergarten Elementary Certificate with Early Education of the Handicapped validation or Prekindergarten Special Needs endorsement preferred; OR willingness to obtain the required licensure after hire per ODE timelines. (The Board of DD will provide guidance for the licensure process if needed.) Successful completion of a physical, BCI/FBI background check and multiple database background checks as defined by ODODD Rule 5123-2-02.
DUTIES: General duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assists the interdisciplinary team in evaluating students for determination of eligibility according to the rules for the Education of Preschool Children with Disabilities.
- Assesses student’s current status in relation to the curriculum, evaluates and formulates new Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals/objectives.
- Develops instructional procedures & methodologies based on the IEP and the learning characteristics of the student.
- Implements instructional activities that are developmentally appropriate in a setting that fosters independence, decision making, self-control, communication, socialization, and functional skills.
- Conducts parent teacher conferences and maintains ongoing communication with parents.
- Assures student safety in the classroom, on the playground and during student drop-off and pick-up.
- Works with a classroom assistant to develop activities and implement IEP’s for the students.
- Directs the assistant in other classroom duties that are required for the health, safety, and welfare of the students.
- Maintains attendance and other records.
- Follows the curriculum as adopted by the school in accordance with ODE guidelines.
- Develops appropriate lesson plans and instructional activities in a play-based classroom.
- Keeps observation notes and/or a checklist on each child in the classroom to evaluate the child’s progress.
- Writes transition reports and completes school age multifactored evaluation (MFE) information for students entering kindergarten.
- Attends workshops, meetings, conferences, and classes that will enhance the performance & knowledge of the instructor.
- Works with other preschool, childcare, and early intervention staff to provide consistent programming throughout the center and to provide smooth transitions from one program to another.
- Performs related duties as assigned by the Director.
- Accepts students who are entering the field of special education and/or preschool into their classrooms in order to provide them with the knowledge and experience that is necessary to educate more teachers in the field.
COMPENSATION: Pay starting at $38,707 or more based on relevant experience. Benefits include State Teachers Retirement System (STRS); medical, dental, vision, life insurance; paid sick and personal leave.
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday during the academic school year (192 days) – classroom located within Jackson Center Local Schools.
