POSITION: Speech Therapist – Early Intervention (Provides services to children from birth up until their 3rd birthday.)
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology required. Ohio Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology License required. Successful completion of a physical, BCI/FBI background check and multiple database background checks as defined by Rule 5123-2-02. Must be physically capable to lift, carry and move children in a safe manner.
DUTIES: General duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assist the interdisciplinary team in evaluating infants/toddlers to determine service delivery and plan outcomes based upon the needs of the child and family.
- Work with the Ohio Early Intervention staff to complete a functional child and family assessment.
- Work with the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) team to develop an appropriate IFSP, which includes functional outcomes based upon the needs of the child and family at an appropriate frequency, duration, and intensity of services to meet the outcome(s). Complete progress reports as requested.
- Participate in weekly team meetings and recommend children for teaming and quarterly updates.
- Prepare families and their child for transition by completing necessary paperwork which may include Evaluation Team Report (ETR), Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and other transition activities.
- Assist in the transition of children to preschool by consulting with preschool staff and providing hands on assistance during the initial transition period, if needed.
- Coach families, other caregivers and the Early Intervention (EI) team that:
- Infants and toddlers learn best through everyday experiences and interactions with familiar people in familiar contexts;
- The primary role of the service provider in early intervention is to work with and support the family members and caregivers in children’s lives;
- The EI process from initial contact through transition is dynamic and individualized to reflect the child’s and family members’ preferences, learning styles and cultural beliefs.
- The family’s priorities, needs and interests are addressed most appropriately by a primary provider who represents and receives team and community support;
- Interventions with infants and toddlers and their family members must be based on explicit principles, validated practices, best available research, and relevant laws and regulations.
- Develop a Joint Plan with the family and caregivers at each visit and review that plan at the start of every visit.
- Use a variety of methods to measure and assess language skills, abilities and disabilities to establish language development levels and develop strategies that the families, other caregivers, and other members of the EI team can use to develop speech and language skills.
- Schedule home visits according to the needs and activities and routines of the family as much as possible.
- Deliver services in a natural environment which includes, but is not limited to, homes, community locations, outside locations such as parks or pools, etc.
- Work with other agencies and programs to ensure understanding and the function of the EI program and the needs of children and families.
- Maintain case notes and other documentation as required.
- Maintain confidentiality of the families served.
- Maintain an up-to-date calendar and schedule of early intervention activities.
- Establish a professional rapport with families and act as the liaison in communication between the family and the Early Intervention program.
- Participate in meetings, in-services, workshops, conferences, etc. to enhance professional knowledge and abilities.
- Participate in weekly multi-disciplinary team meetings.
- Participate in continued education to meet licensure requirements and to provide up to date treatment procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
COMPENSATION: Annual salary starting between $59,000 and $89,000 based on relevant experience. Benefits include State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS); medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance; paid sick, vacation and personal leave. Eleven paid Federal Holidays and an extended holiday period in December and July.
HOURS: 12-month position. 40 hours per week, generally 8:00am to 4:00pm, but flexibility is required to meet the needs of the children and families served. The position start date will be in January of 2025.
