June 2022 Provider of the Month

Congratulations to Mary Rodriguez! You are the Shelby County Board of Developmental Disabilities provider of the month for June 2022!

Mary Rodriguez has worked off and on with the Shelby County Board of Developmental Disabilities for approximately 21 years. She began her career in the DD field by providing transportation services at SCBDD. She left for a few years when those services were discontinued and recently returned to the Hill to work for Wilma Valentine Childcare.

During these years, she continued working as a Direct Support Professional for several clients in Shelby County. She also volunteered to transport many individuals to community events and attended events with them. Mary has gone above and beyond for the DD community.

Mary lives with her husband Chris and their dog, Rufus. In her free time, Mary likes to hike and kayak. She also likes to play cards and board games with her family.

Best Part of Being a Provider

Mary loves what she does. She stated “Every day, I try to make a difference in a student or client’s day.  Making someone feel comfortable in what they are doing and where they are doing it is so important.  I love offering my assistance with their struggles and helping them work through an issue.”

Mary truly is the definition of a great provider and advocate. We thank Mary for all the hard work and are so blessed to have her as part of The Shelby County Board of Developmental Disabilities team.

You Can Be a Provider, Too!

All people with various levels of abilities, sometimes need help. Providers are the key to independent living for those with developmental disabilities.
